- The 29-year-old plans to venture into sports business after his active football career sometime soon.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin has reportedly been given admission to undertake a sports management course at Harvard Business School. The 29-year-old former Real Madrid star is already making plans for life after football as he intends to venture into the business aspect of sports after retiring from active football.

Though, he has no plans to retire anytime soon, the Turkey international will have to combine football and schooling for the period he has to go for classes. Sahin, who spent three seasons at Real Madrid between 2011 and 2014 revealed that he applied for the course earlier in the year, saying that he wanted to be more than just a footballer.

“I have big plans after football, to give back and to give my children something to be proud of," Sahin told the Guardian. "Not just to talk about how I used to be a football player.” The Turkish midfielder is not the first player to have towed this lane, as many players have received degrees and diplomas during their playing careers. Vincent Kompany studied for an MBA at Manchester City, while Andrey Arshavin wrote a thesis on the 'Development of Sportswear Manufacturing' as part of his degree in fashion design.

Manchester United's Juan Mata has two degrees: one in marketing and another in sports science. Sahin also follows in the footsteps of Barcelona's Gerard Pique, who studied a course called 'The business of Entertainment, Media and Sports' at Harvard. He was part of the Dortmund team that got to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2013 but failed to conquer fellow Bundesliga outfit, Bayern Munich. The Turkey international started out at Borrusia Dortmund as a youth player in 2005, and in 2008, he became a full fledge member of the club’s senior team.

In between his first stint at Westfalenstadion, he was sent on loan to Feyenoord in 2007 and at the end of the same season, he returned to his parent club. He has one German Bundesliga title, one DFB Pokal and two German Super Cups in his stay at the club, while his one season at the Netherlands, he won the KNVB Cup in 2008 with Feyenoord.
